A Breakthrough Story Indeed | Ashanthi Soris Mirchandani
We are frequently visited by challenges and obstacles on our journey. Most individuals are discouraged from setbacks and, thus, remain in the same place. Life is all about breaking through challenges and pushing forth towards success. Such is the story of Ashanthi Soris Mirchandani who chose to “breakthrough”.
Ashanthi Soris Mirchandani (Founder of BreakThrough Studio), started her career in fitness back in 2015, and she emphasized that it was not planned at all. Everything started when she was shopping at Cargills and realized that she had only Rs. 3500 left with her. At this moment, she decided to change her life. This would be the decision that would change her life around, forever.
She realized that she had to do something unique and different to break through the financial situation that she was facing and, the mere fact that she was not satisfied with her life before starting her business – Break Through Studio, which is one of the most prominent fitness centers in Sri Lanka. Today, Break Through Studio has grown substantially, operating 3 branches in Sri Lanka and 1 international branch in India.

No, it was not. Her success and idea did not fall into her hands overnight, she realized that she wanted more with her life and wanted to do something big. This very decision is what changed her life. She chose to change her life and she commit to make that choice at every single point in her life. Her hard work, commitment, and passion kept her going through from making 5-6 home visits every day, conducting the classes, managing the administration, and other aspects of the business, all by herself at the start. It was surely a stressful and busy time, but Ashanthi broke through with hard work and sheer dedication to her passion, which was fitness. It was her favorite hobby.
However, she did not envision that fitness could be turned into business at the start, as she was hesitant and did not think it would work. But she took that leap of faith and chose to pursue her passion and dream. Ashanthi emphasized that most entrepreneurs are afraid and hesitant to start. Hence, she shares a word of advice to the aspiring and upcoming entrepreneurs:
“Do not be afraid to start, do not make excuses. Just start with what you have and start now! I started with merely Rs. 3500, which was tough. But ever since I started, many doors opened for me. Today, Break Through Studio has grown substantially into one of the prominent fitness centers in Sri Lanka. If you are truly passionate about something and are ready to commit for the long-term, there is no challenge you cannot overcome. Breakthrough into your new life.”
The commitment to pursue your passion
Ashanthi emphasized that starting a new business is like marriage. You need to be able to commit for the long term and take care of it like your baby. At the start, it will be tough and stressful but with time, it gets better and if you can commit to pushing through all obstacles and breakthrough the shell of comfort, you can achieve success in any field.
Ashanthi did not have the finances to start Break Through Studio since she only had Rs.3500. She knew she did not have the finance to support her passion or vision of creating a unique fitness center. But her commitment to pursue her passion did not stop her. So, she started working as a training coach for 2 years. She saved up and gained experience over this period.
Later, she got certified in GOFLO, TRX Suspension Training, TRX Rip Training, and Pre & Post-Natal Training. She also holds a BSc in Food Science and Technology from the University of Victoria, Australia. Her certifications and qualification helped her start Break Through Studio. Break Through Studio was the first to introduce GOFLO suspension training to Sri Lanka, which was her competitive advantage and unique selling point, enabling her to enter and successfully sustain in the fitness industry of Sri Lanka.
This highlights that she had a never-give-up attitude and figured out a way to somehow achieve her dream because she was committed to making it come true. In addition to that, this portrays that education, expertise, and knowledge in the field of work is necessary to be successful and competitive (skill-advantage).
Nothing lasts without passion, and it cannot be stressed enough that the key requirement for being a successful entrepreneur, is to be passionate about what you do. If you are passionate about what you do, you will be self-motivated and will be able to positively overcome any obstacle because you are committed to pursuing your passion and dream for the long term.
